EPISODE 1 : Water or Wine?

I thought it best to start off with the story most of us know pretty well. I dedicate this one to all you wedding crashers out there..

Okay! So, Jesus is at a wedding and they ran out of wine. This is actually mad awkward. I think it would equal going to a reception today and them running out of small chops. Imagine?

Waiter: “Sorry ma, I went to the back and we just finished the last round of puff puff and samosa..I can find some asun for you”

Me : ” NO. I-I-I need a moment to myself..” *sighs in gluttony and wedding fullness*

Small Chop Syndrome is so real 😔

Anyways……! back to Jesus.

So being the absolute caretaker that Jesus is, he tells servants to fill these huge stone jars with water. Which they did till the brim (John 2:7). So one of the servants takes a cup to the MC (today’s equivalent) and AS he tastes it it turns to wine(John 2:9). It was so good he even commented about how they had saved the best wine for last!!

Imagine having an MC like Basket Mouth at the wedding? He would make a jest of you about how you waited till everyone was drunk so you wouldn’t have to pop the expensive bottles.

You see the water and the wine are actually symbolic of the Law & Grace.

You’re either living under the Law or under Grace. So now let me break it down..

You see the water is the Law. Water is used to wash things i.e. Cleansing. With the Law, you have to be good and cleanse yourself of sin. Water is also clear so you can see what is dirty or sinful in you. (Romans 7:1). I’m sure we all know no matter how many times we shower unfortunately we will always get dirty again. It’s the same as being a sinner, we all fall short of his Glory one way or another(Romans 3:23). How amazing would it be to shower once and never be dirty again? That’s really what Grace is.

Now the wine is a symbol of Grace and Jesus is Grace in human form !! So this wine would later stand for the blood He shed on the cross. Unlike water if you bathed in blood for whatever questionable reason it wouldn’t actually cleanse you but cover you. God is so smart that he made that the very purpose!!!!

Grace simply put means “undeserved favour.” We know that the hosts didn’t work for this miracle wine or pay Jesus at all . They just asked and they received (Matthew 7:7). So really it was underserved gesture, you could even call it his wedding gift to them.

You see because Jesus blood covers us, God doesn’t see our dirty side! (1 Peter 4:8). He just sees His Son’s blood on us and with that he is happy! Although we don’t literally do this, by accepting Jesus as our Lord and saviour that’s really what it means. It makes God happy because it means his son didn’t die in vain.

Accepting Jesus’ blood rather than the water is the only way to make yourself right with God. If anything else could’ve done it ,then Jesus wouldn’t have needed to die. (Galatians 2:21).

YES!!!! It’s that simple. You literally don’t have to do anything but believe in Jesus to be back in God’s “good books”. It’s a gift from God (Just like the wine Jesus gave at the wedding).

That’s why it’s called Grace because we don’t deserve it. (Ephesians 2:8)

Well for lazy people like me this is music to my ears or shall I call it good news? *wink* *wink* *WINK* Even Paul had to call it the Good News (Ephesians 3:8).

For you hard workers out there, Pele!! Bask in your new gift.

It’s hard to understand but sometimes we have to walk in faith. Just like the servant who fully well knew he was carrying water to the MC at the wedding. Sometimes God has a way of turning our water into wine JUST as we taste it and no moment sooner! So walk boldly and have faith, not because you see it but because you hope to! (Hebrews 11:)

So, Are you working for Gods love or accepting that Jesus Christ helped God love you unconditionally?

The choice is yours..Water or Wine?

Ps. My answer is some French Rosé, email me and I’ll send you my address.

Love always,

I love the analogy you created! Law and grace. I love that they trusted Him enough to even fill the drums with water. It must’ve sounded foolish- like we said we need wine, you said we should bring water.?? But that is how we bring glory to His name- by faith- trusting that He will use even the seemingly foolish things to confound the wise! Thank you for this!! I needed the reminder!! ❤

Hey Belinda, congrats on your post! It is bold. This interpretation of Jesus’ first miracle is quite new to me. The symbolism you present is deep – true gospel and yet also heavy theology. I have multiple questions some of which I can look up, others perhaps can be addressed through discussion. I wish you well and look forward to more posts and growth and grace.

This is a beautiful piece Belinda. Very light hearted indeed yet delivers a great message. I pray that whoever reads this invites Jesus into their life and realises that He is all we need and that His grace is sufficient for us!
