Episode 9: Don’t Funk With My Heart

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”

-‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4:23‬‬

(Other versions read – for that determines the course of your life)

Most people read the Bible, understanding the word ‘heart’ in the Bible to be your feelings and things that as an individual you hold dear to yourself.

Although on a worldly level that would be sensible that is not it’s true meaning. You’ll find that the word heart is often used as a substitute for the word “spirit” in the Bible. This is referring specifically to the Holy Spirit we each received when we accepted Christ (Luke 11:10-13).

Our Spirit is such a precious part of us as that is where we house Christ which means where we carry our conscience, spiritual gifts, our faith, our peace of mind etc. All these things are so crucial to real wisdom and good judgement but most importantly our salvation.

Let’s think about this, had we no spirit we could not confirm Christ as our Lord and savior and that automatically means we cannot enter Heaven. So when Proverbs 4:23 says the course of your life, it wasn’t banter!! It’s the line between life and death.

On a less dramatic level, if you were to constantly watch horror films and reality crime shows continuously about unsuspecting victims brutally murdered without having a solid foundation, I can tell you free of charge you played yourself.

You would instill fear and disorder in your spirit. Your mindset would really be affected, how you would relate with others and even how you choose to make decisions would be altered too. The same is true of pornography, sexual immorality even regular Tv shows. Don’t believe me just watch!!!

True story : are you guys familiar with the reality show Bad girls club? Well I started watching the show because I’m a messy chick that lives for drama 👻

and not long into it I could feel myself getting more aggressive. It made me angry watching random girls beat down on themselves and even began to playfully speak like these characters. I honestly stopped watching it because it left too strong an impression on my spirit 🤣 It wasn’t encouraging my journey of love peace and sound mind.

For me it was too toxic but it may not always be the case for you.
Let’s look at an example in the Bible, Now we already know that sexual sin is the highest sin against your spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18) because on a practical level it clouds your ability to make good judgment and many of such experiences erodes your ability to love whole heartedly.

Now Sampson fell in love with a lady called Delilah (Judges 16:4), who conspired to hand him over to his enemies for money. Now he was a mighty warrior, he once use a donkey jawbone to kill 1,000 men and even killed a lion with his bare hands. On 3 separate occasions Delilah begged to know the secret of his strength and with every false answer she schemed to get him captured. He finally told her his strength lay in his hair and she did not hesitate to shave it off and have him captured. He was imprisoned and his eyes gouged out. How gruesome!!!!

The Bible says when his hair was cut, the spirit of God left him (Judges 16:20). Had he protected his heart, his spirit would never have been compromised.

Now it’s not just sexual experiences that affects our spirit. Experiences of betrayal, bitterness, anger and violence (et al) can corrupt your spirit. This is why relationships and friendships are so crucial in life. Someone’s inability to love you can be due to so many reasons and we all have the individual responsibility to continuously examine our own spirits and make sure it’s full of loyalty and kindness.

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.”

-‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:16‬‬

We’ve all been affected by people who didn’t deserve our time, trust or care but it’s our ability to keep a pure heart and live in the truth of Christ that propels our life forward and truly allows us be happy. When you’re happy with yourself and your life you’ll only bring into your life what you truly deserve.

You need to forgive those that have hurt you, not necessarily because they deserve it but for you, and your peace of mind. Firstly God is not unjust, the battle is the Lord’s and they will recieve what is due to them BUT more importantly don’t you deserve to be happy? Don’t you want to live the remainder of your life full of love and peace of mind? The Bible tells us those are the things we should hold unto most and if you ask people with near death experiences they’ll tell you nothing but these moments shared in love matter!!!

So if you’re reading this and your conscience is telling you, you ever wrong me. You’re forgiven! You’re forgiven for me and my sanity…

So often we focus on the external and neglect the internal.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

-‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7‬‬

We truly need to long and work towards being like Christ! In Him, we gain wisdom, insight and true joy. We were not made to suffer but to continuously rejoice in the richness of our lives in Christ Jesus. A spirit overflowing with love and joy. Don’t. Funk. It. UP.

Love, loyalty and kindness always,

Belloz ❤️❤️❤️
