Episode 12: Uh,Oh Yahooze

I’ve read the story of Esau and Jacob so many times and I don’t think the true message ever really resonated with me.

Now these two brothers were some of the first to walk the face of the earth, Jacob was the original Yahoo (fraud) boy and conspired with his mother to deceive his father Isaac into blessing him in Esau’s place. Esau was the first born and traditionally it was his right to receive this blessing before the passing of his father and yet it had gone to Jacob. That was it. Even when Isaac had discovered what had happened, it was too late.

The words he had spoken upon Jacob were irreversible, irrevocable…irreparable.

I imagined if Jacob was around today he would’ve used one of the snapchat filters to disguise himself as Esau or he would’ve been one of those email scammers! He was ahead of his time boy!!

So much so that his father said Esau “will be away from the earth’s richness..and you will serve your brother” (Genesis 27:40). Jacob had first taken Esau’s birthright and now his blessing. How trifling!!!  I can imagine how Esau was broken especially because he was very close to his father. At that point he had vowed to kill Jacob upon his fathers passing.

But let’s take a look at this story more closely..let’s ask questions..God is all-knowing and from the womb, He had already spoken of how the brothers would be separated “nations” and the older would serve the younger. But why would God allow the blessing to stand? God is just and Jacob had sinned by his deceitful ways..Surely if He knew what would happen, when He foretold of what was to come He could use His authority to stop it.

We get insight into this when God declared “Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated..” (Malachi 1:2-3). Again..why was this so?

Truthfully speaking, no one knows the mind of God but one thing about Jacob’s great deception was revealed to me. It highlights the fact that Gods purpose will always stand, not-by-what-you-do (your works) but by Him who calls. It shows that our imperfect human nature is loved by his perfect Grace and mercy.

“I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.” -‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:25‬‬

That’s a picture of our salvation. His love for us goes beyond our transgressions. For He is good and his mercy is foevaaaa!!!! HALLELUJAH 😍😍😍

Secondly, God had chosen his elected people from which Jesus Christ would become a descendant of – through Jacob’s nation and not Esau’s which explains his declaration in Malachi. As always a picture Christ was hiding right there in plain sight to reassure us of his mysterious plan : Christ dying once for all the sins of humanity (Hebrews 9:28).

 Ask me to prove it!!!!

Well since you asked..

Now we know that in the Old Testament, blood always had to be shed as a sacrifice for the remission of sins :appeasing the wrath of God (Leviticus 17:11). The blood of a goat or bull would be shed as a sacrifice “to take sins away” (Hebrews 10:4). Now what did Jacob use to disguise as his brother Esau? Young goats!! He covered his hands and his neck in goatskins (Genesis 27:16) because his brother was much hairier than him and wore the best of Esau’s clothes.

Although Isaac was suspicious of this faux-Esau, He felt his skin and it felt like Esau’s and smelt his skin and it was the smell of his sweet son (Esau) and he had no choice but to bless Jacob. With the blood of the young goats shed, Gods wrath had been unknowingly appeased.

Similarly, when we clothe ourselves with the blood of Christ , the Lamb of God whom died and “through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ died ONCE FOR ALL”, we have been made holy (Hebrews 10:10).

When our Heavenly Father should look, touch or smell us He should see Jesus. When He sees the precious blood of His beloved son upon us, He has no choice but to bless us. Just in the same way, this blessing is irrevocable (romans 11:29).

That is how we are made right with God!! That was how we get our salvation!!! and how we get our names in the Book of Life

not-by-what-you-do (your works) but by Him who calls : JESUS ❤️

In every story in the Bible,  God never fails to give us a constant reminder of the finished work of Christ to help reconfirm his earnest longing to be reconciled with mankind ONCE FOR ALL. Staying in him assures your blessing – not just in your seat in Heaven – but also in reproducing the Christ-like nature that leads to the richness and fullness that life really has to offer. God wants us to enjoy and I know enjoyment fit me dieeeee!!!

I choose to remain in Christ because from there my help comes…there my redemption lies and truly I take refuge in Him because through Him I have peace for my soul, peace about my salvation (Heaven I’m excited to be aquinted with you) and a richness in my spirit that nothing in this world has been able to imitate…Thank you Jesus for I am full!!!!

Are you ready for a miracle? Who does God see, smell and feel when you go to Him with a need or want? Do you go to Him with your good deeds or in the name of Jesus?

The choice is yours…

Love always,

Belloz

Well written!! As a young Christian I have always wondered why God permitted Jacob to deceive his father into blessing .
you have done an awesome job explaining God’s purpose for that.
    I truly enjoyed reading it.

Awesome write up. I love what you brought forth from the story – which is that we should ensure that God sees Jesus in whenever He smells, touches and looks at us. That is the poweful message from the Esau/Jacob story.
Well done, my ‘ogbono friend’. 😉😍

Woohoo!! In the name of Jesus and Jesus alone. I love how you pointed out that God’s purpose will always stand. His words are indeed irrevocable, irreversible and irreplaceable. Hallelujah !
